ArteLatAm is proud to be part of initiatives that celebrate and showcase Latin American talent, transforming and enriching public space through art. In collaboration with the Broadway Mall Association (BMA) —a non-profit organization managing this exhibition, dedicated to creating vibrant public spaces that serve as green sanctuaries for residents and visitors, the exhibition represents the BMA’s growing commitment to exhibiting the works of local artists—, ArteLatAm joined this important moment to present Latin American art and culture with the public art exhibition “The Unknown Way,” by Ecuadorian-American artist Pablo Caviedes.
The exhibition brings together 32 original works from the renowned CRANIUM series, printed on aluminum panels and installed along the central malls of Broadway, from 150th Street to 158th Street, in the Hamilton Heights and Washington Heights neighborhoods.
The exhibition will be open to the public until November 21, 2025.
The opening ceremony took place on Thursday, November 6, at 6:00 p.m., at the Church of the Intercession (550 W 155th Street, New York, NY).
The community and cultural entities were invited to participate and share a tasting of colada morada (a traditional spiced purple corn and fruit drink) and guaguas de pan (baby-shaped bread), traditional Ecuadorian delicacies that symbolize memory, unity, and cultural heritage during the Day of the Deceased (Día de los Difuntos).
About “The Unknown Way” Public Art Exhibition

“The Unknown Way” is a deep reflection on identity, migration, and memory. In his CRANIUM series, the renowned artist Pablo Caviedes, who has participated in several projects with ArteLatAm, this time combines maps, indigenous symbols, and human faces, using the skull —a universal symbol of death— to explore cultural memory and the immigrant experience.
His work fuses Western traditions with Latin American iconography, blurring the lines between life and death, origin and exile, the physical and the digital.
A tribute to Ecuadorian Culture
This exhibition holds a very special meaning. It was created to pay tribute to Ecuadorian culture, and it is beautifully framed within the celebration of November 2nd—Día de los Muertos, or Día de los Difuntos (Day of the Deceased) in Ecuador.
Through Pablo Caviedes’ extraordinary CRANIUM series, we are invited to reflect on life, memory, and identity, embracing the deep spiritual and cultural traditions that unite us across generations.
In Ecuador, the Day of the Deceased is a time of remembrance and connection: a day when families gather to honor their loved ones through art, music, and traditional flavors.
Today we continue that tradition right here in New York City, sharing a piece of home with the traditional colada morada and guaguas de pan, symbols of memory, union, and the sweetness of our cultural heritage.
For ArteLatAm, “The Unknown Way” represents much more than an exhibition: it is a milestone in our vision to promote public art with purpose, community, and impact. Our mission is to transform public spaces into platforms for dialogue, inclusion, and cultural pride. Through initiatives like this, we celebrate the voices of Latin American artists and strengthen our bond with the communities we serve.
Art and community
In addition to the exhibition, Pablo Caviedes held art workshops with students from the Community Health Academy of the Heights, in collaboration with the Community League of the Heights (CLOTH). These activities reflect the artist’s and ArteLatAm’s commitment to education, community participation, and access to public art.
