The reality of the creative sector in New York has reached a critical point. According to recent data from the Center for an Urban Future, the number of New Yorkers in creative industries has decreased by 6.1% since 2019, driven by a 42% increase in rents that far outpaces income growth. Sectors such as film, design, and the performing arts have seen significant contractions, forcing many to seek opportunities elsewhere.
However, at ArteLatAm, we see this landscape not as a closure, but as a signal to evolve. The current crisis underscores that individual talent needs a solid infrastructure to be sustainable. Our mission has always been clear: to transform local talent into tangible opportunities.
How are we responding to this reality?

-
While many creative fields are shrinking, our strategic alliances with government agencies like the NYC-DOE allow us to bring art directly into schools. This work provides a vital and stable platform for artists to apply their mastery while inspiring the next generation.
-
In the face of declining traditional employment, our M/WBE certification in NY and NJ becomes a strategic competitive tool. This endorsement grants us preferred access to government contracts and urban infrastructure projects, allowing our artists to secure stable income and participate in high-budget bids that would otherwise be inaccessible.
-
While traditional spaces face closures due to operating costs, our Public Art division focuses on bringing work to the streets, transforming the city into our canvas to unite communities through culture.
-
By belonging to the ArteLatAm Collective, our members share a network of resources, training, and visibility that mitigates the impact of current economic challenges, fostering collaborative research and creation.
Our Impact in Numbers
Our ability to respond is backed by measurable results that demonstrate it is possible to thrive and generate real change:
-
More than 20 transformative projects completed, redefining spaces and the social fabric of communities.
-
More than 5,000 students inspired through our arts education programs in schools.
-
Consolidated strategic alliances with architects, curators, developers, and government agencies such as the NYC-DOE.
We recognize that other cities are attracting talent, but New York remains the core where great works are born. Our goal is to ensure that those who produce them can thrive and lead through innovation, inclusion, and integrity.
The resilience of those of us who make up ArteLatAm is proof that Latinx talent not only survives the city but redefines it. Our strength lies in the diversity of our team and our ability to transform challenges into new forms of cultural impact.
