In this expansive project at M.S. 577 School in Brooklyn, led by artist Carlos Torres Machado, we successfully served 300 middle school students through a curriculum that integrated hands-on art classes with the creation of a large-scale hand-painted mural. The initiative focused on transforming the educational environment into a space that reflects the collective voice and creativity of its large student body.

“Fostering community and artistic leadership across 300 middle school learners.”

The program was structured to ensure that every student had a meaningful role in the creative process. Through specialized workshops, participants explored different artistic techniques and conceptual development, helping to shape the visual narrative of their school.

Under the professional guidance of Carlos Torres Machado, students learned the discipline required to execute a professional-grade mural, from the initial grid-work to the final brushstrokes.

The resulting mural is a vibrant celebration of the school’s spirit, serving as a permanent gallery of the students’ hard work and shared vision. By involving such a significant number of participants, the project reinforced a sense of ownership and pride within the school community.

“This collaborative masterpiece stands as a lasting symbol of the power of art to unify and inspire a diverse student population.”

Executed with high-quality materials, the mural ensures that the creative legacy of the 2022 spring term will remain a source of inspiration for the Brooklyn community for years to come.
