The specialized art residency at PS 147 Isaac Remsen was established as a vibrant space for creative discovery in Brooklyn, tailored specifically for early childhood and elementary development.
During this program, the instructor worked directly with 3K, Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st Grade, Kinder Special Ed, and First Grade Special Ed students. The classes were designed to nurture creativity, build foundational art skills, and help young learners develop a love for art in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. Through hands-on, age-appropriate activities, students explored colors, shapes, painting, drawing, and basic perspective while being introduced to artists, cultures, and art movements from around the world.
“Lessons were thoughtfully adapted to accommodate different learning styles and abilities, encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and confident self-expression through meaningful, process-driven artwork.”
The sessions were interactive and playful, allowing students to experiment with a variety of specialized art forms and build their artistic skills at their own pace. By integrating these adaptive art classes into the early education curriculum, the project supported cognitive and sensory development while fostering an inclusive environment where every child could thrive.
Beyond the aesthetic outcome, this collaboration with the New York City Department of Education highlights the impact of early artistic exploration on students’ confidence and emotional well-being.
