The educational program developed at Floyd B. Watson Elementary School was designed as an immersive artistic experience where students explored the foundational concepts of community, belonging, and school pride through the creation of dynamic art mobiles. Guided by teaching artist Carlos Torres, students from Kindergarten through 5th grade transitioned from passive learners to active creators, translating abstract values into tangible visual art.

Over the course of the workshops, young learners engaged in hands-on activities that merged technical skill development with expressive personal storytelling. By designing, balancing, and assembling their individual art mobiles, students mastered essential fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and creative problem-solving techniques. Each mobile served as a personal reflection of the student’s unique perspective within the broader collective identity of the school.
