The comprehensive visual arts program developed at PS 81 Jean Paul Richter was designed as an enriching creative journey where third and fourth-grade students explored the rich diversity of global artistic movements, museums, and influential masters. Guided by teaching artist Darwin Erazo, students were invited to step into the role of active creators, translating theoretical art knowledge into original visual expressions through high-quality, age-appropriate materials.
Over the course of several months, young artists engaged in structured workshops that combined technical discipline with imaginative freedom. The curriculum focused on foundational techniques, helping students master drawing, painting, color theory, geometric shapes, dynamic perspective, and creative design principles. Through continuous practice and guided experimentation, participants developed artistic autonomy, spatial awareness, and a confidence in their unique creative process.
“Art opens a window to the world, turning visual exploration into self-expression and cultural discovery.”
Beyond the development of technical proficiency, these educational workshops highlight the essential role of specialized art education within New York City public schools. By connecting historical art concepts with hands-on practice, the program established an inspiring learning environment where cultural appreciation, diversity of thought, and creative growth are celebrated together.
We Make It Real

By combining technical rigor with passion, we ensure art serves as both a powerful social motor in the streets and a vital learning tool in the classroom.
